Idea 1: What could be cuter than a fan-tastic backdrop?

High chair decorations are all the rage for aww-worthy first birthday photos, and we like to bring them to the next level with a fan backdrop. Layer glitter chevron and dot fans in pink and Caribbean blue, then add a Minnie cutout and garland icons from a room decorating kit. Inflate pink polka dot and confetti balloons, and tie them to balloon weights with different ribbon lengths to create a balloon arc. Fan hanging tip: tape a 6-inch loop of clear fishing line to the fan and tape to the wall with clear packing tape, or hang from Command hooks.

Idea 2: A special birthday high chair Minnie would love!

For a signature Minnie Mouse look, it’s all about the bows and polka dots. Attach a pink satin and mesh ruffle high chair skirt to the high chair tray, and then add strips of pink and white polka dot streamers. Finish off with a mini blue fan and a paper Minnie cutout.

Idea 3: Create bow-loons Minnie would love!

Minnie Mouse loves to rock the dots, so add a touch of frilly fun to your party decorations! Inflate a transparent and pink dot balloon and attach to a white ribbon. Tie on a pop of pink tulle, and top off the look with a small Minnie cutout. How nice!

Idea 4: Keep your smash cake simple

A petite buttercream-frosted store bought cake is soft and inviting, so she can easily dig right in and smash! Top it off with a sparkly pink number one candle for a sweet and memorable photo op. This one-derfully simple cake won’t take any attention away from the star of the day, your little one!

Idea 5: Think pink, and go for the bows!

Yoo-hoo! Minnie Mouse is all ready to help you throw a first birthday party as fun as it is adorable. All you need is a dollop of dots on…pretty much everything! Start with an easy decorating kit, or pick and choose your favorite items to go with your own creative DIYs. Your little mini-me will adore a party featuring her favorite Disney character.

Idea 6: Can’t choose between cake and cupcakes? Serve both!

Take this idea to a bakery or get creative at home! For a Minnie Mouse first birthday we love these fondant custom details like ruffles, Minnie icons, polka dots and a big bow on top. For the guests, precious Minnie cupcakes are a snap. Make or buy vanilla cupcakes in polka-dot wrappers and frost in white. The little Minnie ears are miniature chocolate sandwich cookies! For bows, use easy sugar decorations with a dot of frosting, or craft custom bows out of fondant if you feel like making it a next-level celebration.

Idea 7: Learn how to make tasty and simple marshmallow treats!

Cut a small slit into each marshmallow, and press a striped straw in, about halfway through. Freeze for 5-10 minutes for the marshmallow to better adhere to the straw. Melt white or pink Candy Melts using a microwave or fondue pot. Dip each marshmallow halfway in, letting excess drip off, and then sprinkle with pink sugar sprinkles. Attach easy sugar deco bows with a dot of frosting, or craft mini bows out of fondant. Simple and sweet!

Idea 8: Wrap up mousekatools in perfect pink bows!

Whether you’re serving up lunch, dinner or birthday cake, your hungry guests will love this adorable way to present their cutlery! Bunch together black utensils, then add a pink polka-dot napkin creased to look like a bow. Tie all of these together with a small piece of ribbon, and cover with a smiling Minnie cutout. Our favorite bow-wearing mouse would love this fashionable take on a cutlery wrapper.

Idea 1: We’re huge fans of this high chair backdrop!

First birthdays are a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, which means you’ll need lots of pictures! Create a vibrant backdrop for your little one’s high chair using colorful paper fans. Start with glitter chevron and dot fans in red, blue and yellow, then layer mini fans in opposing colors on top for visual interest. Create paper Mickey heads using black mini fans and circles from a pack of black polka dot string decorations. To make it extra adorable, add yellow stars and Mickey cutouts from a room decorating kit.

Idea 2: Decorate a high chair for the leader of the club!

It’s your little mouseketeer’s big day, so make his high chair sweet and special. Start with a high chair decorating kit, which includes a pennant banner and Mickey floor mat for easy cleanup after the cake is smashed. Hang white streamers from the high chair tray, and finish by attach blue Mickey cutouts and yellow stars from a room decorating kit.

Idea 3: It’s all about the smash cake!

Smash cakes are a first birthday tradition! The little mouse of honor should have a cake all to himself, no fork required. To make sure your cake is simple and “smashable”, opt for buttercream over fondant and avoid dark food dye, which may stain skin. To match your theme, use a large number 1 candle that can be removed when it’s time to get messy.

Idea 4: First birthday trend alert: Mickey Mouse

Classic characters are a favorite first birthday theme, because parents love them too! You can’t get more classic than Disney’s first iconic character, so get a little help from Mickey Mouse to celebrate your baby’s big day.

Idea 5: Serve milk in cute bottles!

After all the cakes and party sweets, guests will think a tall glass of milk is in order. To make simple milk bottles match your Mickey theme, attach cutouts to the outside using double-sided tape. Pop in matching striped straws to finish the trendy look.

Idea 6: Adorable and easy DIY Mickey cupcakes

These crazy-cute cupcakes are deceptively easy. Make or buy chocolate cupcakes in polka-dot wrappers (to match Mickey’s familiar red pants) and frost in white. The Mickey ears are actually mini chocolate sandwich cookies! Gently press two into each cupcake.

Idea 7: Tips for an awesome tiered Mickey cake!

Your little guy’s smash cake is taken care of, but what do you serve your guests? To make a big impression, build a three-tiered Mickey Mouse cake using fondant, yellow Sixlets, and a glittery blue candle. Make the ears out of fondant or gum paste, inserting toothpicks or craft sticks before drying. Press these into the top tier of your cake on either side of your candle. Absolutely magical!

Idea 8: Come inside, it’s fun inside!

Set up a gift table near the entrance, so guests know exactly where to put their presents as they come in. Create a cute custom look by hanging a cheerful banner and Mickey cutouts, a first birthday garland and a giant Mickey balloon.

7 Reasons to Hire a Kids Party Photographer

PC TeamArticles, Party Planning

Hire a kids party photographer for your kids’ birthday photos. Why? Let’s face it…your smartphone camera is great, but you’re not a professional. Your juggling skills are half that of the clown you booked for your kid’s party, right? So with all of the responsibility that comes with pulling off the perfect party, why would you even consider being the event photographer too? We have an idea: You concentrate on the party. Our professional photographers will handle the pictures.

Professional Party Pics: 7 Reasons Not to DIY

1. You’re too busy hosting the perfect party

It’s time to face the frustrating fact that you can’t be in two places at once. While you’re setting up the next party activity or putting the candles on the cake, who is capturing all of the kids’ candid moments? Enter: The Professional. Jane Peterson, of Phillips Event Photography believes that party throwers should have as much fun as party-goers. “They need to enjoy themselves instead of worrying about documenting the event. Leave that to a pro — it’s worth it.”

2. You can actually be IN the pictures!

“I love capturing candid moments that express love and emotion,” said Peterson. “Your kids party photographer can get candid moments of the entire family. But, if mom is the photographer, there won’t be any pictures of her because she is behind the camera”. You are an integral part of your child’s big day. Be a part of the memories.

3. You are not a professional. Professionals are trained

From the candid snapshots to the creative pictures to the traditional photos, a pro is sure to capture it all. Peterson explained, “A professional photographer has hours upon hours of experience and is more likely to have a good eye for composition and anticipation.” Still, Peterson has her favorite party shots that she always makes sure she snaps.

“I try to capture the children with their parents or grandparents during those special moments that show their bond,” said Peterson. “As always, I get the cake and the family blowing out the candles, too”.

4. A pro photographer comes with high-end equipment

OK, how many non-professionals have a 5K DSLR or Mirrorless camera  hiding in their closet? One of the perks of professionals is that they own top-of-the-line cameras. “Let a photographer capture the moments with a professional high res camera, pro lighting and pro lenses,” said Peterson. Special moments deserve superior equipment.

kiddys kingdom kids party photographer

5. It’s a great alternative to family portraits

Remember the last time you arranged for the family to get portraits taken? The kids didn’t like the clothes that were picked out for them and no one would sit still. When it was all over, you received a packet of photos that featured studio-forced smiles. This was not what you had in mind for the holiday card. This time, approach portraits differently. Peterson explained how capturing kids and families in their natural settings would result in cherished photos. “We are trained professional photographers that wait for the perfect moment to capture the children and guests naturally”, said Peterson. “We have enough experience to know what works and what doesn’t, trust me.”

6. Eliminate post-party organization stress

You’ve planned the party to a tee with lists, a dozen separate shopping trips, and hours of cooking + set up. Then you managed the party day with rowdy kiddos, icing explosions, and last-minute balloon malfunctions. Do you

A. really want to be trying to manage well-composed, sharp images amidst those duties? and

B. do you honestly see yourself in the weeks following having several free hours to go through all those pictures, touch them up, and get them printed?

A kids party photographer can make receiving the photos easy. You just enjoy the party and then a few days/weeks later, you receive a perfectly curated gallery online or by usb. Choosing to delegate the memory-keeping to a professional will take loads off your already pizza-grease-covered plate.

7. Capture Candids

It’s easy for kids and adults to fall subject to the “say-cheese” syndrome, but birthday parties are about fun and festivity — a pro will be able to capture the in-between moments that showcase real emotion of individuals and groups.

The next time you are hosting a kid’s party, consider hiring a professional photographer. Remember: A photographer has just as much passion for their craft as you do for your child, and that passion comes through in the photos. Peterson said, “As long as I capture images that move my clients, I am happy.”

Costume Characters: Perfect for Birthdays!

PC TeamArticles, Party Planning

We received received tips from some of our fabulous costume character performers on how to safely hire a costumed character for your party. This, plus a recent trip to Disney World got me thinking about children and their diverse reactions to “characters”. Has your child has been invited to a party that may feature a costume character? Are you planning on hosting a party featuring a party character? Here are some tips for making sure all goes smoothly:

kiddys kingdom costume characters for birthdays

Characters in costume, especially those with covered heads, are a fairly common fear for young children. For children under the age of three, it’s best to avoid a character in costume, unless you can see the person’s real face. For older children, make sure that your child has had some positive exposure to a costumed character before hiring one. If you are hiring a princess or other costume character for a young child, make sure to let other parents know on the invitation by stating that “A Princess will be stopping by” or “We’re expecting a special visit from a certain “Police Pup”. This will give the other parents time to prepare their children for the visit.

Never fear, Costume Characters are here

If your child is invited to a party with a costumed character, and you know that he or she is likely to be afraid, ask the host if you can stay at the party. The host  can give you a warning before the “special guest” arrives. This is your opportunity to retreat to a quiet place. This way, you can watch the action without coming too close to the costumed character. Any professional performer will recognize that your child does not want to be approached. You may be surprised though, your child may be afraid of characters in large open areas like grocery stores or amusement parks, but may feel more comfortable in a friend’s house.

If you are unsure about how afraid your child may or may not be, try to prepare him or her before the party. Mention that there will be a visit from someone in a costume. Remind him or her of how much fun it is to dress up on Halloween. If your child has positive experience with Santas or Easter Bunnies, consider explaining this as a similar experience. For example, explain that this isn’t the real character, but that he’s dressed like the real character.

Remember, hiring a professional character performer who knows how to handle nervous children will help alleviate many problems before they start!

3 Tips for Hiring Santa Claus for the Holidays

PC TeamArticles, Party Planning

Hiring Santa Claus to arrive at a dinner, gift exchange, or community event will make for a truly magical experience!  There are a few things to consider before finalizing your booking. As expected, Santa’s schedule gets pretty hectic during the holiday season. If you are interested in having him join in on your festivities, check out our top three tips for hiring:

kiddys kingdom hiring santa claus for holiday party

1. Background

When planning a children’s event, you want to be sure you are hiring a trustworthy performer, especially if it’s Santa Claus. Not only do you want a professional, but you’ll want to ensure your child’s safety by checking if the performer has a current background check. Take your time viewing your potential entertainer’s Kiddy’s Kingdom photos. Ask your Fun Specialist for honest feedback and take a look at our performer’s photos. By looking at what kind of events a particular Santa has worked, you will see how experienced he is.

2. Ask Questions

He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good but he’s not a mind reader. You have nothing to lose when requesting a free quote from a Santa vendor. Use this function as an opportunity to add in any questions you’d like answered. We recommend: what will Santa be wearing? (if there are options), what services besides visiting with children does he provide? (taking photos, singing, passing out gifts), does he come with Mrs. Claus? Asking questions will help you figure out which Santa is the best fit for your event!

3. Book Early

Santa is a very busy man! It is never too early to book your Santa. Some Holiday Santas will be booked as early as three months in advance of the holiday season. Bookings are in highest demand during the two weekends leading up to Christmas, so secure a booking now to make sure Santa will make a stop at your party. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Planning your holiday party can be fun and easy. Event planners nationwide trust Phillips Kiddy’s Kingdom to plan their festivities. We offer a wide selection of holiday entertainment services featuring holiday characters (Santa, Grinch, Mrs. Claus, elves and more), balloon twisting, face painting and equipment rentals. Booking a Kids Party Character Birthday Party

PC TeamArticles, Party Planning

Nothing makes a theme party more exciting than bringing that theme to life.  And for most kids, nothing is more surprising than seeing their favorite fictional character walk into a party – just for them.  Hiring a costumed character or kids party character for a birthday party is a surefire way to make some memories.

kiddys kingdom kids party character

Costume Characters are always a Big Hit

If you’re searching for Costumed Characters, keep these ideas in mind:

There are a lot of companies out there with a lot to offer.  Some companies list every character they are able to provide.  Some do not.  If you know exactly what, or whom, you want, don’t be afraid to ask what’s available locally.  Most companies stay up to date on kids’ favorites, from Walt Disney movie characters, to Kiddy The Kub, to Paw Patrol.

If you are planning a more seasonal event and are in need of a Santa Claus or Easter Bunny, you’ll be happy to discover that most companies feature these characters as well.

kiddys kingdom holiday christmas santa claus kids party character

It’s important to remember that these companies entertain for all types of parties.  So even if you’re not sure about what would work best for your event, be sure to contact them and provide as many details as you can – what your child likes, where the party will take place, and how long you would need them to entertain.

You should also try requesting a singing telegram. These performers can provide a variety of surprises, they specialize in stopping by for a humorous rendition of the Happy Birthday song.

Request these activities for your character visit

  1. Picture Posing
  2. Music Provided
  3. Participate in Organized Activities
  4. Sing “Happy Birthday”

I’ll leave you with some advice from fellow Phillips Fun Specialist, LaToya:

“Everyone love and appreciates being the center of attention. What better way to embarrass your friend than to have their favorite cartoon character arrive with a handful of balloons just in time to sing ‘Happy birthday”? They’ll absolutely love it!

Plan Your Munchkin the Best Birthday Party Ever

PC TeamArticles, Party Planning

It’s not too soon to start thinking about your child’s next birthday party (even if the birthday is next next year!)  When you’re a parent, birthdays spring up quickly, creating a rush to get the details secured and the invitations out. This year, resolve to give your child a memorable party that is as unique as they are!

kiddyskingdom best birthday planning

Indoor Play Centers

Of course, there are always the “turn-key” birthday places that churn out 8 parties a day. The kids love them and there’s no mess to clean up at home. Then there’s the one year you take your child to the same indoor play gym four different times for four different parties. With a little extra thought and effort, you can avoid doing the same birthday party as every other kid in the class!

Keep Your Child in Mind

First, think about what your child loves to do the most, then see if you can come up with a way to share their passion with a group of kids. Almost anything can be turned into a party: sports, trains, music, magic, crafts, favorite movies…

Next, decide on the number of kids, and a venue that will accommodate everyone. Aside from your house, you could have the party at a park, community center, restaurant, museum, or destination unique to your town.

Now, comes the most important decision – determining how you’re going to entertain 5, 15, 30 kids (and possibly their parents) for a few hours.

Be Creative

Here’s where the real creativity comes in…and hopefully, here’s where our experience at Kiddy’s Kingdom can help:

If your child loves magic, bring in a magician. Be sure to work with the magician ahead of time to make the birthday boy or girl a part of the act.

If your child loves to be on stage, bring in a karaoke DJ. Before selecting a karaoke service, find out if they have your child’s favorite songs.

If your child loves art, you could have a caricaturist do portraits of all the guests. Make certain that the caricaturist you select is accustomed to doing children’s parties. And, of course, look at his or her portfolio. (Bonus – this is a great take home gift for guests!)

If your child loves the circus, there are lots of options…jugglersface paintersballoon twisters, and clowns.

These ideas aren’t reserved for the likes of celebrity kids. In fact, you can find some very affordable options, priced comparably or less than many of the turn-key birthday places mentioned above. Children’s birthday parties don’t need to be over-the-top to be memorable!

How Kids Birthday Entertainment Works for You

PC TeamArticles, Party Planning

Think you can’t afford kids birthday entertainment like hiring a DJ or renting a bounce house for your next party? The fact is, expenses like hiring an entertainer or renting party equipment, are always worth the investment. Not only are they entertaining your guests, they are doubling as babysitters for the children. Now that’s downright invaluable when you’re hosting a party! Here’s a list of the top things you may want to spend some of your party budget on the next time you throw a party for your child.

Magician

One of the most invaluable entertainers to have at a kids’ party is a professional magician. Children’s Party Magicians are very unique because they can entertain both the children and adults. Children’s magicians often provide a show especially for children ages 4-12. These showcases are often interactive, so parents can participate in as well. There aren’t many activities that can bring every guest together for a smile in unison. When you consider the cost of a magician, you will want to know the age groups of your guests. Most often, children’s party magician rates range anywhere from $149 to $300 per hour. You’ll also need to know the amount of guests you’re expecting. Both can affect the cost.

kiddys kingdom kids party entertainment

Bounce House

These inflatable structures of ready-made for hours of kids birthday entertainment. (Another big bonus: All that jumping around will allow kids to spend their endless amounts of energy, making them nice and tired at the end of the day.) Bounce Houses can cost around $100 to $250 to rent, depending on how big it is and how many hours you want to rent it for.
(NOTE: For safety, be sure the Bounce House is tied down securely. Don’t let bigger kids bounce with younger and smaller children. Never, ever leave kids unattended without an adult supervising. When speaking with your fun specialist, be sure to read reviews on Kiddy’s Kingdom and ask for references.)

Kids DJ

Hiring a pro to handle the music isn’t a bad idea if you are planning a kids’ party with a large number of children. If you’re planning to set aside an area for dancing, go with a pro to keep it full. A DJ can cost anywhere from around $99 to nearly $199 p/h depending on where you live, according to Kiddy’s Kingdom. A live band will charge much more, from around $500 to over $1,200. If you’re thinking about hiring a professional DJ  to provide your kids birthday entertainment, be sure to go through an event-service provider like Kiddy’s Kingdom so that you can be sure you’re getting the best DJ for your kids birthday party.

Face Painter/Balloon Twister/Clown/Costumed Character

Hiring an entertainer is also a great idea for a kids’ party, many are surprisingly affordable. According to Kiddy’s Kingdom, a face painter can cost about $99 to slightly over $129.99 p/h, depending on your area. A balloon twister is about the same ($99 to $129 p/h) and clowns are a bit more expensive ($149 to about $199). Younger kids particularly love the idea of having a superhero or a princess come to the party. Having someone come to your child’s celebration in costume can run you anywhere from around $149 to $225. For parents, not having the pressure of coming up with ideas to entertain kids can be a huge relief. Leaving the entertainment to a pro can be well worth the cost.

kiddys kingdom kids birthday entertainment photo booth

Photo Booth

Because it’s a bit pricier than other things you can rent for a party (the average cost is around $300 to more than $600, depending on where you live, according to Kiddy’s Kingdom), you may want to reserve this for a big-event kids’ party, such as a Sweet Sixteen, a Quinceanera, or a Bar Mitvah or Bat Mitzvah. But whatever kid party you rent this for, a photo booth will be loads of fun for everyone, adults and kids alike! Plus, you can leave some homemade photo books made out of card stock paper on a nearby table for guests to put photos in and take home after the party.

No matter what service you decide to use for your party, think about what your own personal needs are and what your budget is. If you really dread the idea of finding ways to entertain kids, renting a bounce house or hiring entertainment may be what you need. If you’re hosting a huge, milestone birthday bash, a band or DJ may be the way to go. In cases where your guest list includes lots of young children, a sitter will be an invaluable asset as well. Think about the cost-benefit ratio for your individual situation (and what will save your sanity). Consider booking assistants through party pros like Kiddy’s Kingdom.
